Transfer large videos from Android to Mac
Updated October 24, 2026
Phone videos get big fast: a few minutes of 4K can take several gigabytes. Cloud uploads and messengers shrink them or take hours. A USB cable copies the original file at full quality. Here is how to do it smoothly.
The quick way
- Connect the phone to the Mac with a USB data cable, ideally USB-C to USB-C, straight into the Mac.
- Unlock the phone and choose “File transfer” in the USB notification.
- Open PhoneFerry, switch to Videos, select the clips and click Copy, or drag them into Finder.
- Keep the phone unlocked and connected until the copy finishes. PhoneFerry shows the speed and time left.
What slows a big copy down
- Old or long cables, and USB hubs or monitors in between.
- A phone that locks or goes to sleep during the copy. Keep the screen on for long transfers.
- Many apps reading the phone at the same time (photo apps, cloud sync, Smart Switch).
- Wi-Fi: it works, but a cable is usually faster for very large files.
Check the copy before you delete anything
Play the video on the Mac and compare its size with the phone. PhoneFerry never deletes anything on the phone unless you ask, and its backup option deletes originals only after a verified copy.
Frequently asked questions
Do videos lose quality when copied by USB?
No. USB copies the original file. Messengers and some cloud links compress video; a direct copy does not.
Can I copy files larger than 4 GB?
Yes, PhoneFerry copies large files. If a file stops, check the cable, keep the phone unlocked and try again.
Why is my copy slow?
Most often the cable or a hub. Use a short data cable straight into the Mac and keep the phone awake.
